Our Story
In 1998, the absence of a Montessori Early Childhood Centre in our area led two Montessori mothers on an adventure to establish their own centre for young children. Discovering the perfect small cottage in Riwaka, they began the transformation into a special place for tamariki (children).

Families from near and far chose this centre because it offered a Montessori Education, providing children with the freedom to learn at their own pace and abundant opportunities for exploration. As the years passed, the centre expanded its learning spaces, allowing more children to experience the magic of Montessori.
The Drummond Family
In 2018, after two decades, the responsibility of nurturing this special place was passed on to the Drummond Family.
Building upon the foundations of what made Montessori a magical place, Horizons Montessori embarked on another stage of growth. This expansion included the addition of a dedicated space for children under two years old and an enhanced learning environment for all tamariki. We are thrilled to continue the legacy and story of this place for many years to come.
